More than three decades after Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere became one of the most glamorous couples of the 1990s, their children have found themselves standing side by side in the spotlight.
Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are among the young stars of The Shards, Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated FX series based on Bret Easton Ellis’s bestselling novel. The series arrived on Disney+ internationally on August 6, 2026, bringing together a cast that includes Kaia and Homer in two important roles.
And yes, the story is almost too perfect to be invented.
A Hollywood coincidence nobody could have written
Kaia is the daughter of Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber. Homer is the son of Richard Gere and actress Carey Lowell. But their parents’ names are what immediately capture everyone’s imagination.
Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were married from 1991 to 1995, at the height of their fame. Their relationship became one of the defining celebrity romances of the era, combining the world’s most recognizable supermodel with one of Hollywood’s most fascinating leading men.
Their marriage eventually ended, and both went on to build completely different lives and families.
Cindy married Rande Gerber in 1998 and became the mother of Presley and Kaia. Richard later married Carey Lowell, with whom he had Homer, before eventually marrying Alejandra Silva.
And then, years later, something completely unexpected happened. Their children met. Not at a Hollywood party. Not through their famous parents, but on a television set.
The Shards brings the past and present together

Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the story follows a group of privileged students at an elite high school whose seemingly perfect world is threatened by obsession, jealousy, sexuality and the presence of a possible serial killer known as the Trawler. Homer plays Robert Mallory, the mysterious new student who becomes central to the story, while Kaia is part of the young ensemble as Susan Reynolds.
Interestingly, the two had never met before working on the series. When they discovered their parents’ history, they apparently addressed it very early and then simply moved on, developing their own friendship and professional relationship.
And I love that. Because their story is not a remake of their parents’ romance, it is something completely different. They are not trying to recreate Cindy and Richard, they are simply two young actors beginning to write their own stories.
Richard Gere: a proud father
For Richard Gere, seeing Homer enter the world of acting must be an especially meaningful experience.
Homer has taken a very different path from his father. He grew up largely away from the Hollywood spotlight and only recently began pursuing acting professionally.
Richard has spoken openly about his pride in his son, praising both his ability and the way he is approaching this new career. He has also offered Homer advice about professionalism and what it takes to build a lasting career as an actor. And perhaps that is one of the most beautiful things about this story.
Richard isn’t trying to make Homer another Richard Gere, he is encouraging him to find his own way. That, to me, is what a proud father should do.

Seeing Kaia and Homer together inevitably takes us back to the images of Cindy and Richard.
The covers. The photographs. The red carpets. The glamorous parties. The extraordinary beauty of two people who, for a few years, seemed almost unreal. They were young, beautiful and famous, but they also represented two very different worlds.
Cindy was the supermodel who had conquered fashion and was becoming one of the most recognizable women on the planet; Richard was already an established Hollywood star, with an increasingly private life and a deep commitment to Buddhism and Tibet.
Their relationship fascinated the media precisely because of that combination.

And here comes my nostalgia…
I have to admit, though, that whenever I see Kaia and Homer together, my mind immediately goes back to Cindy and Richard.
Maybe because I lived through those years. Maybe because they represented something that Hollywood rarely manages to reproduce. Glamour. Real, effortless, almost cinematic glamour.
Kaia is beautiful. Homer is handsome. They are young, talented and have every opportunity to build successful careers, but for me, there is no comparison. And I don’t mean that as a criticism of the younger generation. It is simply that Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were something unique. There was a particular chemistry between them, a combination of beauty, charisma, mystery and elegance that made every photograph look like a movie still.
Perhaps that is why seeing Kaia and Homer together feels almost like opening an old photo album.
The faces have changed. The generation has changed. The Hollywood landscape has changed. But for a moment, history seems to have come full circle.
Cindy and Richard had their story. Kaia and Homer are beginning theirs. And as much as I adore this unexpected Hollywood connection, I still find myself thinking that the original combination of Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford remains, for me, absolutely unforgettable.
